Today's photo shoot was in Bayfield County. I noticed on the map, just north of Washburn a road sign for Houghton Falls Road. About a mile down this road there was a trail in the woods that lead to this water falls. I had to walk about a half mile, but it was worth it. The water Falls, of course, was frozen over, but this gave me an opportunity to climb down closer to the falls in the snow. I made sure I did not get too close to the edge, so I didn't fall in. Under the snow I could hear water running, which made me a little nervous. What a way to get CLOSE to nature and to this amazing water frozen water falls!

This Weather is for the Dogs
In the past few weeks it has been colder than it has for many years. It is easy to just complain about the weather, like everybody else. BUT with the cold and snow comes a few beautiful and glorious things that God includes as extras. One of these "extras" are sun dogs around the sun. Today they were exceptional and I had a chance to take some photos of these signs of cold weather. I pulled over by an empty field and sat in my car and took photos of the sun and the halo surrounding it. As I processed these photos on the computer, I was amazed at how clear and magnificent they were. I really did not have to doctor these photos up very much. They speak for themselves of God's glory as found in Psalms 19. I did use a special star filter for the first one, but the rest are just as you see them. I am not sure what happened to the 4th picture, but it looks like a light from the ground shining up to the sky. Which one do you like best and why?

The Get Away Time!
Today was one of those days that I knew I had a lot to do, BUT I also needed to get away to think and pray. So, I took a little trip down to Clear Lake to take photos of the swans. It took a little while to get to Clear Lake, but because of the cold temperatures it didn't take me long to take photos. I basically got out of the van, took as many shots as I could and got back into the van to warm up. Even at that, I took at least 200 photos of the graceful, cold birds. The trip was well worth it just to spend time with God and with His creation. Besides that, I think I got some good photos of the swans and the lake area. Now I have to make up the "lost" time and get back to work! (If some fol the photos look a little foggy, that is the steamy mist coming off the lake.)

Wonders of Winter
Nobody would argue that this has been an exceptionally cold winter - so far. It is fun listening to those who have lived in the North Land for many years tell of the old days when we "really had winter". In spite of all the cold and snow, there has been some real blessings to this winter. The scenery has been absolutely amazing. I have never seen the snow stay on the trees and landscape this long. Warming up today the trees have been coated with hoar frost and the sunsets have been above usual. It is too easy to see this winter as a bad thing instead of God showing us His glory and majesty in nature.
