Fall Crane Migration

Yesterday a lady posted that the Sandhill cranes were coming into Crex Meadows and that here were hundreds of them. So tonight I decided to see if these rumors were true. When I first got to the Crex the placed was silent with little, if any, activity. I thought, "What a waste of time and gas". There were several cars at the sight. Some with binoculars and others with cameras with long lenses. They too had heard the rumor. One couple came all the way from the Twin Cities just to see the birds. Then as it was starting to get dark, there in the distance was the start of  the migration to the Lake. Flying in formation, they looked like world War 2 dive bombers ready to strike. Yes, there were hundreds of  them! It wasn't long before the lake sounded like loud party. I am not sure what the cranes were saying, but it must have been important. In between shooting the cranes there was a couple of swans swimming in the lake and then the sunset! An amazing sunset that capped the night off with the glory of God. Here are a few of the photos I took tonight. The bird photos turned out to be more silhouette because of the time of day. Enjoy the photos and if you have a chance take a trip to Crex Meadows just before sunset. You won't be sorry! It has to be better than anything on TV! Bring you camera!
